I am doing a 3 day conference with my dad. It is a marketing conference with the guy who wrote, “the wizard of ads”. This guys is a genius but has not been very easy to follow. He does not fit into my linear brain. I love taking notes when I am listening to people and I appriciate it when someone keeps a nice clear communication line for me to follow. This guys is giving me a run for my money… that is for sure.
Here is an overview of the information I got today… for all you marketing lovers.
Marketing bits of wisdom
- Specific is always better than Generalities
- Do not find happy medium between 2 extremes for marketing because then you do not make anyone happy. Good marketing will always offend some people and make the others laugh. If you stay in the grey middle you will not be effective.
- Things move to your working memory (short term, electrical) to you procedural memory (deep and long term, chemical) by adrenaline. Adrenaline can be caused by: surprise, shock, anger, joy, etc… any unexpected feeling.
- People only give up something when they are giving up something that is less than they are receiving. (if they do not feel it is a good deal they will not take the offer)
- The public is more willing to believe Fiction than truth, they want to believe fiction (kinda scary). 10% of all books written are non-fiction… however 90% of all books purchased or non-fiction.
- Left brain sleeps at night, the right brain dreams. Memory is in the left brain so you will not remember the dreams unless your left brain wakes up.
The hardest thing in life is to choose between 2 good things.
You cannot change another persons mind, infact no one every changes their mind. They just get more/new information that causes them to see things differently than before and they choose to agree with this new information.
- The only authority/judgment people trust is themselves.
- Control the questions and topic not the answers, if you want to influence someone.
Salience (relevance or impact) X repetition
- More Salience less repetition is needed, and less salience the more repetition is needed to influence someone.
- Neurologically, branding is nothing more than the result of Salience X repetition. But repetition costs money, salience on the other hand is the product of powerful messaging.
3 Keys to Recall Cue (slogan, positioning, statement or other repetitions elements)
- Consistency – in the message
- Frequency – in experiencing the message
- Anchoring – message attached to an emotional experience or tie.
Nitro of Advertisements (done right will move mountains, done wrong will blow up in your face)
- Jingles – catchy songs which stay in your head
- Humor – makes you laugh and remember
- Testimonials – real life stories
- Dramatic reenactments – people talking or story.
People have 2 budgets
- Time
- Money
You can always save one by interchanging the other, however here is the rule you will want to follow when dealing with other people
Before noon: you have time to expense
After noon: you have money to expense because time is short (have to get stuff done before work or when you get home)

Sermon: The breath of God.
Part of a 3 part series
- Bead of heaven – can live without food for months.
- Water of life – can live without water for a week or 2
- Breath of God – can live without air for a couple mins.

4 things breath gives us (taken from this passage)
- Breath of God give understanding. (Eze 37:3)
- Job 32:8 – understand
- All scripture is God breathed and Gods breath gives understanding. Bible = Understanding. (everything you need to know is in the bible)
- When we don’t understand fear comes in and we start to panic/anxiety.
- Breath of God gives order (Ezek 37:7) – bones come together
- Ps 33:6/Gen 1:2-3 – by the word of the Lord the heavens came/formed
- When God speaks breath comes out. Breath has power (life)
- Is 55:11 – his word does not return void
- Breath of God gives strength (Ezek 37:8) – sinews and muscles attach.
- Ps. 18:15-17 - Delivered David out of the enemy by breath
- Exodus 15:8-10 – by blast of nostrils red sea parted (power of God)
- WE need the breath of God to be strong in this world, need his breath upon us.
- Matt 8:8 – only speak the word and he will be healed (
- Breath of God brings life. (Ezek 37:10) life to the army
- Speak Gods word over death in your life or in others.
- 2 Peter 1:20 – prophecy is speaking Gods word
- Prob 4:20-22 – God words are life to a man. (Job 33:?)
This is a matter of life or death, we must be in God’s word or we will die!
